Embracing Change, With Gratitude

Dear friends,

Fall has always meant back to school for me. For years, the season’s start was measured in school supplies, parent meetings, and the steady outflow of money on new clothes and sports gear, the beautiful chaos of raising children.

This year is different. My youngest has just left for college, and for the first time since I became a mother, the house is quiet. My husband, our sweet dog, and I are officially empty nesters. To be blunt: my heart is broken. This feels like the definitive end of a chapter that won’t come back.

It’s a bittersweet milestone, one chapter closing and another beginning. There’s a real sadness in letting go of the small people you raised (hence the tears), but there’s also excitement in discovering what lies ahead for all of us. I’m learning that empty nesting isn’t just about absence, it’s about space: space to reflect, space to grow, and space for the next season of life.

As I reflect on this next phase, it occurs to me how closely personal transitions mirror what businesses go through. We move through cycles of growth, reinvention, and renewal. Sometimes we expand, sometimes we streamline, and sometimes we pause to take stock. Each chapter, personal or professional, brings its own lessons and opportunities.

This fall, I’m choosing to embrace change with gratitude, for what has been and for what’s still to come. I hope you, too, find renewal and inspiration in whatever chapters are opening for you and your business.

A small warning, please be careful, asking me how I’m doing right now, I might just use your shoulder to cry on. The honest answer is no, I’m not okay… yet. But I know I will be.

Though my home is quieter now, my heart is full, because home here at GBS fills it. I look forward to creating many more special events with you.

In gratitude,
